French 2 way switching system!!
Postby Brindy »
I have to fit about 6 new halogen downlighters into the kitchen of my small place in France. I have checked on the Forum the various ways to fit two way switching available in the UK. However I have also checked the French way, which hopefully a diagram is attached! Can anyone have a look at it and see if there are any obvious problems. Junctions boxes as we know them are not used over there, they use the plastic box with connectors for everything.

Convert the image files to gifs or jpegs. These forums do not support tif files.

No problems with the 2-way circuit, although it's no longer fashionable to use that method in the UK. The alternative is shown in the 2-way lighting section on this site Click here
There is a limitation as a result of not including an earth (cpc) wire to the switches. That will mean that you should only use plastic switches and not the metal finishes that are often used these days.
I should be dead; I've cheated the Grim Reaper yet again by surviving my third heart attack in June.

Actually stoday the way it is shown is the conduit method still wideley used when wiring in singles. it is also used in domestic situations when wired in three core and earth as it causes less noise when the occupiers wear /use hearing aids .
Nick
If it isnt broke dont bloody touch it until it bloody well is and if it is broke then make drawing of the connections before you remove the broken one and replace with a new one LoL

Thanks for the replies, and apologies for not attaching the drawing properly (if at all!)
